Of the fight in San Antonio, Munguia said, “I feel very happy to be starting the year 2020 with a great fight at a great place like San Antonio, Texas. I have fought in Houston, Texas before, where the people there treated me very well. I think that San Antonio won’t be any different. We’re going to deliver a great fight against a tough fighter in Gary O’Sullivan. He’s great and he’s strong, but we’re going to come very well prepared. We plan to do an excellent job and make it very clear who is the best in the ring. Thank you to all, and we’ll see you this January 11 in San Antonio, Texas!”
Munguia, a young gun with 27 KOs will be making his middleweight debut on Saturday against O’Sullivan who has 21 KOs. If the records are not enough, if the KOs are not enough, keep in mind that this is a clash between Mexico and Ireland. Not only are these lands home to some of the most exciting fighting styles in history, their fans are some of the loudest, most loyal and most singular. Hearing Irish or Mexican fans cheer on their native sons is a cultural phenomenon, and both will be in attendance. The fans in the arena make the entire event more exciting for everyone as they cheer and carry on. Upon hearing the trumpets erupt during a Mexican walkout, or the incessant “Olé”s from the Irish crowd, there are few who do not feel a chill before the first punch is thrown.
After five title defenses at Junior Middleweight, Munguia is entering a phase of his career where he will build his name in the sport of boxing. O’Sullivan seems to embrace his opportunity stating, “It makes it even better that he’s Mexican. I grew up watching the great Mexican champions and to get the opportunity to fight Jaime is an honor… this fight will be a war that the fans will talk about for many years to come.”

Erik Morales, Hall of Famer and trainer of Jamie Munguia heralds his pupil as, “the new face of boxing”, and here Munguia has the chance to support that claim.
Eric Gomez, President of Golden Boy says that this young talent wants to challenge popular champions such as Golovkin and Canelo in the future.
Headlining beside them is Franchón ‘The Heavy-Hitting Diva’ Crews-Dezurn, who will be defending her WBC and WBO Super Middleweight belts against WBC Heavyweight Champion Alejandra Jimenez. The Heavy-Hitting Diva will look to make it clear to the fans who is who, “Jimenez is disrespectful, a bully, entitled, and I don’t have respect for this person after trying to intimidate me at the 57th WBC convention.” This is about more than just a prize for Franchón as she looks to make Jimenez answer for her petulance.

The Heavy-Hitting Diva has a charming edge to her that fans should embrace. This is not a meek woman, and this is not a meek champion. Franchón went on to couch her interpretation of the source of Jimenez’s attitude toward her, asserting, “Jimenez hates that I’m feminine…”, “I hope Jimenez keeps that same energy Jan. 11 because I will show that I am the dominant alpha female”.
Folks, if these are not the words of a Queen Regnant there are none! No matter how the fight goes, this will settle a dispute of pride between these two. If you do not have DAZN get to it and do not miss out. San Antonio is hosting quite the kickoff for the boxing world.■
