For UFC 241, the only unbeaten fighters on the card are Sabina Mazo and Manny Bermudez. Anybody who chooses to put Bermudez’s name in a google search will find that his MMA record (14-0) looks similar to Ronda Rousey’s prior to her fight with Holly Holm. He has a long list of wins with that are mostly submissions; usually guillotines or triangle chokes. Bermudez’s efficiency with triangle chokes is the reason he’s called “The Bermudez Triangle.” A look back at his professional career, amateur record and prior training suggest a prospect that could be one of the most dangerous submission artists in the UFC.

Bermudez began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the age of 13. Today, Bermudez continues to train out of South Shore SportFighting with head coach Bill Mahoney. Throughout his teenage years Bermudez had a growing interest to test his martial arts skills inside the cage; even stating in an interview with Sherdog that he “thought he would be seen fighting on Spike TV.” It was around the age of 18 is when he decided to break into amateur MMA. He joined the professionals in the summer of 2015 before his 21st birthday.
Bermudez has had stunning performances in his pro career and made a huge mark in his time with Cage Titans. One of Bermudez’s most notable fights was his first round submission win over Bendy Casimir via triangle choke. What made this victory so amazing was the fact that he sunk in the choke so fast that Casimir had little time to tap and was already unconscious when Bermudez released the choke. Furthermore, Casimir was a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the time while Bermudez was a purple belt. Casimir also had an extensive fight career before fighting Bermudez with 47 fights that included future UFC fighters Erik Koch, Ricardo Lamas and John Makdessi.

Manny Bermudez continued his winning streak in the UFC where he fought Albert Morales in his promotional debut in February of 2018 winning with a guillotine in the second round. He followed that with a win against Davey Grant with a triangle choke in the first round and most recently defeated Benito Lopez with a first round guillotine. Although unnoticed to casual MMA fans, Bermudez has been solidifying himself as one of the best UFC prospects when it comes to submissions.

For UFC 241, Bermudez will be facing Indiana native, Casey Kenny (12-1-1). A win for either might lead to possible fight with a contender or at least a match on an ESPN main card.
